Marjorie was born March 20, 1952 , 6 minutes before her twin sister, Mary Beth, in Lafayette, Indiana. One of seven children, she was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Joseph Le Beau, and Bernadette Patricia Le Beau. She was the loving mother of two children, Tamara and Bryce, and Grandmother to five. She was a resident of Virginia Beach, Virginia, having moved there in 2002 to be close to her grandchildren. A lifelong, devout Catholic, she was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Mark in Virginia Beach.
Marjorie, “Margie,” was a brilliant woman, a truly voracious reader, who loved stealing away the hours with a good book. She had a passion for art history and classical music, and developed a surprising fondness for cats in her adult years. As a working mother, with 2 elementary-aged children at home, she made the brave leap to become a full-time student at Indiana University/Purdue University at Ft. Wayne, Indiana. She received her degree in Elementary Education and English. She began her teaching career at New Haven Middle School in New Haven, Indiana. She completed her Master’s Degree in School Administration in 1994. After teaching in Indiana for 14 years, she moved to Virginia Beach, where she taught at Centerville Elementary as a Gifted and Talented Resource teacher, and retired as a kindergarten teacher.
Margie and her husband John enjoyed their retirement years travelling together. Margie will be lovingly remembered by hundreds of students as a caring teacher with a passion for her subject matter, and high expectations for each of her students. She had a rare ability to touch the hearts of the hardest-to-reach students other educators could not.
Survivors include her loving husband, John Hobbs, daughter Tamara (Christopher) Hagerman, son Bryce (Krista Miles) Stath, and grandchildren Molly, Lucy, and Gabriel Hagerman, and Bjorn and Margot Stath. Her surviving siblings are Pamela (Mike) Jones, Thomas (Carol) Le Beau, Mary Erwin, Janet (David) Godshall, Richard (Angie) Le Beau, and Edward (Jen) Le Beau. Margie was an aunt to 16 nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Catholic Church of Saint Mark in Virginia Beach on Friday, July 24th at 2:00 PM. Inurnment will be immediately following at Rosewood-Kellum Memorial Park in Virginia Beach.
While Margie loved flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cure PSP at psp.org or to the Colleen Cunningham Foundation.
