Martha Jean Smith, age 69, passed away on January 2, 2019, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. A native of Mobile, Alabama, Martha Smith is survived by her husband, Charles; her daughters, LaJill Hunt and LaToya (James) Turner; and her son, Chaz Smith, all of Virginia Beach, VA; brothers Marshall Hunt, Jr, and Roy (Kimberly) Hunt of Mobile, AL; one sister Gloria Scott of Louisville, KY; sister in law Joycelyn W. Hunt of Mobile, AL; brothers in law Marshall (Shawan) Smith of Jacksonville, FL, John (Deloris) Smith of Hampton, SC; sisters in law Carrie Frink of Ash, NC, Edith (James) Williams of Ridgeland, SC and Barbara Orr of Summerville, SC. She is preceded in death by her parents Marshall Hunt, Sr. and Minnie Hunt; sister in law, Lillian Hunt, of Mobile, Alabama; and brother in law Leroy Fink of Ash, North Carolina. She also leaves behind five beautiful grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Martha Smith was a great educator, and loving mother figure who was deeply involved in her church and community; she was also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. She enjoyed reading, ministering to others, and trivia. Her family and friends will always remember her as a no nonsense, direct yet funny person who was always willing to help.

A visitation will be held Tuesday, January 8, from 5-7pm at Rosewood - Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Road VA Beach. Her Homegoing Celebration is scheduled for January 9, 2019, at New Light Baptist Church, 5549 Indian River Road, VA Beach at 12pm. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park with a reception to follow in the funeral home. All are welcome to attend.
