Martha Malinda Roberts Wagoner was welcomed to the arms of her Savior Wednesday night, September 22, 2021. Born June 3, 1924 in Mt. Airy, NC, to Thomas David Roberts (1859-1946) and Zelma Irene Hoffman Roberts Moore (1904-1997), Martha filled her 97 years with love for family and friends, meeting and marrying the love of her life, Luther Kirk Wagoner (Oct 3, 1922- August 29, 2004) in 1944. As a Navy wife for 20 years, Martha moved about the country with her husband and three sons, living at times in California, Florida, Maryland, Tennessee and Virginia. After retiring from military service, a fourth son was added. Martha was a member of Wesley Memorial (Wesley Grace) United Methodist Church for over 65 years. Even in her final days, as other lights in her mind grew dim, she brightened and rejoiced in the singing of her favorite hymns.
Through her faith she endured the losses of her husband, mother, father, two daughters-in-law [Vanessa (1952-1976) and Diane (1951-2003)], and brother (Clyde Roberts). Remaining to celebrate her Earthly and Heavenly lives are her sister Pansy Gangloff of Illinois, four sons and their wives, David Kirk (Sandra Field) of Charlotte, NC, James Rodney (Evelyn Worley) of Virginia Beach, VA, Daniel Robert (Susan Foard) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Douglas Dean (Cynthia Sprenger) of Eure, NC, along with 10 grandchildren (Ginger, Wendy, Beau, Kaira, Lori, Jennifer, Ryan, Rebecca, Christina, Lauren), and 17 great grandchildren.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a time to be determined. Donations in memory of Martha may be made to the charity of your choice.
“For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive.” I Corinthians 15:21,22.
