Merrion Donald King, 84, of Chesapeake, VA, transitioned from this world on November 6, 2023, to be with our heavenly Father in glory. He was born on June 27, 1939, in Brooklyn, NY to the late Merrion King Sr. and Almond Carter.
Merrion, or Donald as he was called by family and close friends, dedicated 25 years of his life to the New York City Transit Authority before retiring to Chesapeake, VA. He was a loyal friend, giving and caring. He always went above and beyond to help those around him. He had a deep love for the Lord and his family.
In his leisure time, Merrion enjoyed bowling, shooting pool, traveling, and watching movies. These hobbies brought him joy and allowed him to unwind and connect with others.
Merrion was preceded in death by his parents, Almond Carter and Merrion King, Sr., a sister, Hazel Edna King, and brother, Charles King.
Merrion is survived by his son, Michael King (Patricia), his niece, Adrene King (Reginald Harris), his great-nephew, Maurice King, his great-niece, Ashaki Rucker (Paul Doris), his great-great niece, Kiara King, and his great-great nephew, Austyn Doris. He also leaves behind his special friend, Deloris Hawthorne, as well as a host of cousins and friends.
Merrion found solace and strength in his faith and was a member of several places of worship throughout his life. He was a current member of New Jerusalem Ministries, under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Veronica R. Coleman. He was also a previous member of Impact Worship Center Int'l, under the guidance of Dr. Brennetta C. Williams, Sr. Pastor, and Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where the late Bishop William D. Scott presided. Donald, as he was called by family and friends, was also an avid prayer partner in the Wednesday prayer ministry.
Merrion Donald King will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. May his memory be a blessing and may he rest in eternal peace.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 16, from 5 to 7 p.m.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 17, 1:00 pm at New Jerusalem Ministries, 5184 Singleton Way, Virginia Beach, VA. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park.
