Mildred A. Simmons, 85, went to be with the Lord on December 3, 2010. She was born on February 21, 1925 in Freeport, Pennsylvania the daughter of the late William and Goldie Mae Christie. Mildred was an avid bingo player and when she was able she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and playing cards. She was a charter member of Baylake Pines United Methodist Church. Mildred was preceded in death by her beloved husband George H. Simmons, Jr.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Sylvia Taylor, Millicent Shahan and husband Gary, Darlene Hodges and husband Paul, Nanette Simmons all of Norfolk and George Henry Simmons, III and wife Cora of LA; 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and a host of loving friends.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 6, 2010 at 3 PM in Rosewood Memorial Park, 631 N. Witchduck Road in Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital, 1309 Kempsville Road, Norfolk, VA 23502.
