Mr. Nichols was born in Durham, NC and resided in the Tidewater Area most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Olen J. Nichols and Eddy Jackson Nichols and a sister J. Lynn Ehrig.
Mr. Nichols retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after twenty-three years of service as a nuclear pipefitter and attended Western Branch Community Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his loving wife of nineteen years Virginia B. Nichols; five children Richard Byrd, Jason Nichols, Richard Smith, Sheila Smith and Douglas Smith; sixteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two sisters Shirley Ann Rowe, Jewel C. Davis and a brother Jack Nichols.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016, 2:00 p.m. at Rosewood Memorial Park.
