Paul Clifford Horstman passed away peacefully on 23 May 2014. He joins his first wife, Hazel Weatherly Horstman, who he was married to for 54 years. Paul was born on the fourth of July 1923 in Covington, KY. Upon graduation from high School Paul joined the US Navy just prior to World War II in 1942 and served proudly as a Chief Hospital Corpsman. He retired from military service in 1960. He then worked in preventive medicine first with the City of Norfolk and then with US Navy, finally retiring in 1978.
Paul will be greatly missed and remembered by all his valued friends who supported him over the years. He leaves behind to cherish his memory Velma Lee Horstman, his loving and devoted second wife of eight years, of Virginia Beach; a brother, Robert Horstman; his children, a daughter, Marti Allbritton and a son, Robert Allbritton, all of Sarasota, FL; two children by his first wife, a daughter, Barbara Ann Irving and her husband Jeffrey of Virginia Beach, VA, and a son, William Bernard Horstman and his former wife Becky Horstman of Norfolk, VA; two nephews, Tim and Tom Hils of Southgate, KY; three grandchildren, Timothy, Laurie Ann and Michael; eight great- grandchildren; and shipmates and friends too numerous to mention here.
Since Paul was born on the fourth of July, the family always had a big birthday celebration for him. Paul was most proud of his family, especially his grand and great grandchildren. His most memorable thoughts were the times he spent with them playing or fishing. He loved to retell the many stories of their antics and accomplishments. His other great love was square dancing with the Dixie Squares.
A memorial service will be held for him at 2:30 pm, on June 9, 2014, at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 601 North Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach. Full Military honors burial will follow where he will be interred with his first wife.
