Mrs. Sunderland was a native of Amityville, New York. She was preceded in death by her parents Frederick and Carrie Ann Barnes, her husband John Wilson Sunderland, a son John Wilson Sunderland, Jr., and a sister Lillian.
Mrs. Sunderland was a longtime member of Salem United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach.
Survivors include a daughter Pamela Ann Sasser and husband Bob; three grandchildren Robert Sasser and wife Amy, Jennifer Holland and husband Kory and Chad Sunderland; four great grandchildren Caroline Sasser, Catherine Sasser, Harper Holland and Jordan Sunderland.
Graveside services at Amityville Cemetery in New York will be determined at a future date.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
