Ralph P. Downey

Ralph Downey, 67, passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2012. Ralph is a native of Covington, Virginia, but called Virginia Beach his home for most of his life. In his early adult life, he served in the United States Army and as a Norfolk policeman. For many years, Ralph was a compassionate and devoted soccer coach and board member for the Rush Soccer Club. His dedication was rewarded with the honor of having the Ralph Downey Memorial Day Classic named after him.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Eileen, two daughters; Lynn and husband James Aydlett of North Carolina and Jennifer and husband Michael Banton of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by his grandson Matthew Aydlett and three grandaughters, Alora Aydlett, Samantha Eddy, and Reagan Eddy. In addition to his immediate family, he is also survived by a brother; Leroy Downey and four sisters; Mary Richmond, Betty Wright Tucker, Vonda Tucker, and Shirley Richmond.

A celebration of life will be on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral home at 601 North Witchduck Road in Virginia Beach. The Service will begin at 1:30 with burial immediately after at Rosewood Memorial Park. Condolences can be offered at www.kellumfuneralhome.com.
