Raymond Sylvester Good

Raymond Sylvester Good was called home on December 6, 2023, at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital in Virginia Beach, VA. Raymond was born on March 29, 1936, to the late Israel & Queen Good in Cherokee County, SC.

He graduated from Compact High School in Kings Mountain, NC and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Teaching from N.C. A&T University in Greensboro, NC in 1959. He excelled in their sports programs in both track & field and football. Raymond then was drafted into the Army from 1959 to 1962 where he was stationed in Italy as a military police officer. Once out of the Military, he earned 3 Master of Science degrees in Education from The City College of New York in New York, NY. Raymond was an educator starting out as a science teacher and advanced to Dean of Students, Vice-principal, and Principal at various institutions including St. Christopher’s School in Dobbs Ferry, NY, Graham School in Hastings-on-Hudson, and finished his career at CS-129 in Bronx, NY.

On October 16, 1964, Raymond married Judith Brown and went on to have 4 children, Jonathan, Yvette, Jennifer, Eric.

Raymond retired in July 2005, and they moved from New York to Virginia Beach, VA where he spent time planting flowers, tending to his garden, and working on fixer upper projects which he loved.

In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his brother, E.F. Goode; sisters, Katherleen Littlejohn, Jeanell Smith and Josephine & Jeanie Mae who passed away shortly after birth; a grandson, Christian Good.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Judith Good; his sons Jonathan Good of Dobbs Ferry, NY, Eric Good of Bloomingburg, NY, Tony Lee (Tracy) of West Babylon, NY, Vincent K. Jordan (Grandson) of Dallas, TX and daughters Jennifer Good of Virginia Beach, VA and Yvette Mayfield (Bryon) of Mooresville, NC; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; one sister, Mary Frances Jordan of China Grove, NC; one brother, Rev. Timothy Goode of Kings Mountain, NC and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home on Friday, December 15, 2023 at 1:00 pm, visitation will begin at 11:00 am. Mr. Good will be interred at A. G. Horton Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at 3:00 pm.
