

Richard “Dick” Sanford, age 67, lost his battle with Pancreatic cancer on Thursday, February 4, 2021. Due to the Covid-19 Virus no service was held at the time of his passing. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, July 24 at 2pm at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, Virginia Beach, with a reception to follow.
The son of the late Harold R. Sanford & Dorothy Odom Sanford, Dick grew up in Norfolk, Virginia where he graduated from Lake Taylor High School and attended Old Dominion University.
Dick was employed by Verizon for over 30 years and was passionate about his coworkers and his various jobs, particularly his last assignment as a Store Keeper. He was a true lover of animals, especially his beloved cocker spaniel, Maddie. Dick was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, turning his sunroom into a tropical space. No one enjoyed Christmas more than Dick and he showered his family with the latest Hallmark ornaments each year. Dick lived a gracious and compassionate life, bringing love and joy to his family and friends. He will be remembered for his bright smile and his constant willingness to lend a helping hand.
Dick is predeceased by his brothers, William E. Sanford and Harold C. (Chris) Sanford and great nephew, Kolbie Sanford. Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Janet Sanford Culbertson; his nephew, Gregory W. Culbertson and his wife, Cheryl Stronczer-Culbertson; sister-in-law, Kathy H. Sanford; his nephew, Jeffrey R. Sanford of Texas and his children, Keilynne Bolick and Kaleb Sanford; his niece, Kristy S. Goodwin and her husband, Greg Goodwin & their son, Zack Goodwin; and nephew Nathan Sanford.
