Born on March 26, 1933, in Newport News, Virginia.
He was predeceased by his parents, Robert F. and Mary Benton Johnston, and brothers, William L. Johnston and David E. Johnston.
He resided in Chesapeake, Virginia and was a St. Brides Episcopal Church member.
He is survived by his nieces, Cindy J. White and Susan J. Rowland (Jeff); one great nephew, Thomas T. White, Jr; three great nieces, Stacey W. Ayala (Edgar), Beth Rowland (Josh), and Holly Anderson (Sam); two great great nephews and niece, Thomas T. "Trey" White III, Wade Anderson and Eliza L. Anderson, and sister-in-law, Faytie C. Johnston.
Bobby was a U.S. Army Veteran who retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad after 39 years of service. He was an amateur roller skater who traveled the eastern seaboard competing, teaching and judging. He won numerous trophies and awards. He also enjoyed camping, watching ice hockey and soccer and spending time with his family.
A private service will be held.
