Roland is predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Opal R. Dixon; a son, Douglas Roland; grandson, William Douglas, and six brothers, Bernice, Dewey, William Davis, Elbert Ray, Leslie and JT Dixon. Left to cherish his memory is a son, Ricky Dixon; daughter, Roseanne Dean (Digger); granddaughters, Amy Hague (Rich) and April Brooks (Nate), and five great-grandchildren, Austin Hague (Kelsey), Lottie West, Colton Hague, Savannah and Ava Brooks.
Roland was born in Pitt County, NC in 1932 to Henry Dixon and Daisy Evans. He graduated from Chicod High School in Greenville, NC in 1952. He served in the Army in the Korean War, worked for the railroad for 32 years, was lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War and a member of Riverside Baptist Church.
He will be remembered for his infection laugh, love for his family and friends, willingness to lend a hand to those in need and his desire to tinker and tell a good story.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022 from 4-6 pm and a graveside service will be on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at 11:00 am. All services will be at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home and Memorial Park at 601 N. Witchduck Rd., Virginia Beach, VA 23462. Following the graveside service, there will be a reception at Riverside Baptist Church at 5768 Sellger Dr. in Norfolk.
