Ruth Giordano Midgett of Virginia Beach, VA peacefully fell asleep January 26, 2024 in her home surrounded by family after a brief fight with cancer (age 75). She was happily married to the late Murray Midgett, a renowned local plumber and all-around great guy, for 53 years.
Ruth was a lifelong member of the Christadelphians and a Sunday School teacher to generations of little children. She was a devoted evangelist, joyfully sharing her faith in God with anybody, anytime, anywhere with breathless excitement. She was always on a mission to reach others with God’s plan and love – every pocket and bag contained a few outreach cards for freebible.info. Her faith guided her every decision in life. When she wasn’t dreaming of eternity in the Kingdom of God, Ruth was known for daily Bible readings, for organic plant-based, whole food recipes, and for crafting, sewing, and gardening. Her handmade felted animals were delightfully realistic. When you dropped by her home for a visit, you were bathed in a warm, smiling hospitality and advice on herbal remedies for any ailment. She was good at everything she set her mind on.
As a young girl, one of her chief joys was to challenge the boys to a footrace and outrun them all. In elementary school, she won every single field day event. Curious about anything made by her beloved Creator, she researched plants, fungi, astronomy, ecology, and herbal medicine throughout her life. She loved libraries. Reading to children and singing lullabies was her special gift and when she sang with her husband, their harmonies were so sweet, you would think someone was playing the radio. Ruth managed her husband’s plumbing business and returned to Old Dominion University in her mid-30s to complete a degree in chemistry education. She taught high school chemistry, ran a mass spectrometer in several test laboratories, was general contractor on major home renovations, and indexed a few books before finishing her work life as a webmaster at Tidewater Community College.
The second child of Tony and Esther Giordano, she is predeceased by her adoring husband, Murray Midgett. Descendants include children, Jesse Midgett, Jonathan (Corina) Midgett, and JoAnna (Jacob) Maney, and grandchildren, Shay Maney, Cían Maney, Meredith Midgett, Jonah Midgett, and Gabe Midgett. She will be missed by family and by dear friends she held so close to her heart. She requested donations for AgapeInAction.com in lieu of flowers.
