Shirley Parker Porter, 82, of Chesapeake, VA passed away peacefully in her home; surrounded by her children and grandchildren Saturday, June 27, 2015. Born April 20, 1933 in Fort Meade, MD to the late William W. and Wilma Mason, Sr. She spent most of her younger years living in Norfolk, VA where she graduated from Maury High School; met and married her first husband Frank W. Parker, Sr. to whom she was married to for 40 years until his passing. She was one of the lucky ones who found love a second time around when she met and married her second husband the late George W. “Buddy” Porter, Jr. in 1998 to whom she was married to for 14 years. She retired in 1995 from UERD Naval Surface Warfare Center after 22 years of service. She made many lasting friendships at UERD. Shirley was a very soft spoken sweet woman and you could not help but love her the moment you met her. She enjoyed going to the beach, gardening, ceramics, bowling and knitting but most of all she loved going to Dover to play the slots with friends and family. Left to cherish her memory are her brother, William W. Mason, Jr. (Joan) of Norfolk, VA, her beloved children Frank W. Parker, Jr., Kristy A. Andrews, and Karen L. Hardison-Parker (Daren) all of Chesapeake, her precious grandchildren Martin T. Hardison, Brooke A. Hardison, Austin P. Hardison and Kellan G. Parker and several nieces and nephews as well as her best friend, bowling partner and shopping companion of 60+ years Barbara Gray of Virginia Beach, VA. She also leaves behind her pug Daisy whom she adored and who never left her side.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, July 2, 2015, at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, VA. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service.
