
Susan Barbara Smith, born April 20th, 1952, lost the battle to cancer on September 12th, 2026. At the very end, her sons were by her side, providing the same love and comfort that she had given them their entire lives.
Susan was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, and a truly good-hearted person to anyone she met. She shared 38 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Edmund James Smith. Founded on love and humor, together they started a family and had 2 sons: Chris and Kevin. They were the center of her universe and one of the greatest joys of her life. She cherished them unconditionally and was always there whenever a mother’s presence was needed.
Susan was also a loving grandmother to her grandson, Isaac. Being a grandmother brought her a special kind of happiness, and Isaac held a treasured place in her heart. Seeing her grandson smile and laugh would always make her day.
People who knew Susan will remember the kindness, generosity, and the profound devotion she had for family and friends. She had a special way of making others feel cared for and supported. Her greatest joy was being there for the people she loved, and her family was always at the center of her heart.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Margaret Hanusch and her husband, Edmund Smith. She leaves behind two sons, Chris and Kevin; a grandson, Isaac; countless friends, and a lifetime of love and memories.
Though she is deeply missed, Susan will continue to live on in spirit by everyone who knew her. She was sincerely loved, and will be forever missed. Her kindness, devotion, and compassion will never be forgotten.
A visitation will be held Friday, October 2nd, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 North Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach.
