Suzette Renee Caton, age 70, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away on January 31, 2023. She will be missed by her husband, C Richard Caton; son, Steven Romero (April); stepson, Brian Caton (Sandhya); stepdaughter, Dianne Mays (Kevin); grandson, David Mays; granddaughter, Payton Romero; grandson, Pranav Caton; grandson, Gautam Caton, and many loving brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Suzette was predeceased by her father, John Tucker Sr; her mother, Suzanne Tucker; her stepmother, Marilyn Tucker; and her beloved cockapoo, Coco.
Suzette was born on September 8, 1952, in Elgin, Illinois, and was adopted by John & Suzanne Tucker. After her mother, Suzanne, passed away, her father remarried, and Marilyn Tucker became the mother Suzette grew up with and admired. Suzette graduated from Elgin High School in 1970 and then enlisted in the Navy. She served her country for 4 years as a Radioman 3rd Class, and then continued her education, earning multiple degrees, including a master’s degree in counseling from Old Dominion University. Driven by her passion for women’s rights, she dedicated her life to educating others and empowering women.
Many would describe Suzette as a caring and supportive person who was a great listener leaving a profound impact on all those who spent time with her. Steven especially remembers as a young child looking up to his mother’s courage and passion for anything she put her mind to and the role model she was for him.
She and Richard loved to travel, taking cruises, cross-country road trips, and some crazy train adventures. There were always visits with family after to take in details of their travels through stories and photographs. Suzette became an avid workout enthusiast over the last decade and spent her time trying new things such as yoga, ping pong, and boxing. When she wasn’t traveling or exercising, you could find her enjoying a dessert of any kind. Her family jokingly teased that she would have dessert after every meal, including dessert for her dessert.
Suzette will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and co-worker.
Suzette did not want a funeral, but rather a celebration of life, which will be held in the spring. For all those interested in attending, please contact the family at [email protected] to receive information and be added to the invitation list.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Suzette’s name to the American Parkinson Disease Association.
