

Virginia Hewitt Perry passed away June 17, 2012 at Lillian’s Loving Care, a local nursing home, at the age of 88. She was born January 22, 1924 in Camden County, North Carolina to Dave Hewitt and Lizzie Riggs Hewitt. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 62 years Gardner L. Perry, Sr.; sister, Harriet Baum; brother, Dan Hewitt; granddaughter, Cindy Jo Jernigan; step-grandson, Danny Athans; and two half brothers
She is survived by her son, Gardner L. Perry, Jr. and his wife Libby, her daughter Frances McLawhorne, her grandchildren Virginia Irene Castle, Gardner L. Perry, III, and Dave R. McLawhorne; step-grandchildren Ricky Athans, Dana Nixon, and Roxanne Leonard. She is also survived by her sister Ruth Banks of Moyock, NC, and her brother Lankford Hewitt and his wife Gloria of Chesapeake, VA. She was blessed with many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In the early 1950’s, Gardner and Virginia joined Lafayette Presbyterian Church in Norfolk, VA, and were active members throughout the years. Virginia was the Sunshine Chairman for many years of the Adult Bible Class and thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship of visiting the sick folks and those unable to attend church, and taking each a small remembrance. She also participated in the Meals on Wheels program and was very proud to be honored at their annual banquet for delivering a vast number of meals throughout the year. She was an inactive member of the Eastern Star.
Virginia was a loving wife and mother. She enjoyed family gatherings with her family in North Carolina. She enjoyed taking trips to the Virginia Mountains. She was a good neighbor and friend to everyone she knew.
Visitation with the family will be held Tuesday, June 19, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 North Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach. A funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Robert F. Pittman, III at 11:00 am, Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, with burial at Rosewood Memorial Park.Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Lafayette Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 1821 Lafayette Boulevard, Norfolk, VA 23509.
