I can't believe it's been nearly two years. Some days it seems like yesterday and others it seems like an agonizingly long time.

I miss you, my love. I miss you more every day. One day we will be together once again and I will rest in your warm embrace. Until that time, I will remember you fondly... Daily

I'm so sorry Wayne has passed but I'm sure he is with The Lord. We lost being in touch with each other and I really didn't know what was going on. I know he suffered dearly. We were best friends for years and installed many HVAC systems together. He had a BIG HEART and would do anything for you. When we worked on VETERANS systems we didn't charge anything. Our birthdays was on the same day. We were both foreman's at the PWC Norfolk. I'm having a similar issue with a head injury from 1980 and now a heart operation due real soon. I'm unable to attend the service Friday and it really bothers me. I miss him BIG TIME .

So sorry to hear of Wayne's passing. He was a very good man and a Coast Guard buddy for many years!
We shared hunting stories all the time - he always did better than me! LOL We had many breakfast meetings with all our tired Coast Guard buddies that make for many good memories! Rest In Peace, Wayne ! Hooyah! You will be missed......

We first met Wayne and his family at a campground in Windsor Va. Ever since then they have been like family to us. We are so sorry to hear Wayne had passed.. He was truly one of the best of us. We will miss him and all the good time we have shared. RIP Wayne

                                                                         The Jeffreys

Shared couples vacation trips to casinos and a horrific week in Myrtle during the storm of the century. Watching with the greatest sadness as his life slipped away. Best memory of all - Being able to count Wayne as my friend. Fair winds and following seas, my friend.

I am sorry to hear about waynes passing we were pals we hunted together at P&w hunt club for about 12 years he was a good frind .

Sorry to hear about Wayne’s passing. I worked with Wayne at NAVFAC for the last 10 years of his career. He was a wealth of knowledge about HVAC maintenance and often helped me with my home HVAC system. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time. Rest in peace Wayne.

I knew Wayne from when he came into the credit union and he also serviced my heating unit for me he was a great man and he will be missed my thoughts and prayer go out to the family

He was a good friend we had many conversations about families and work he was an excellent HVAC man very knowledgeable he will be missed I will keep the family in my thoughts and prayers

It has been my pleasure to have known Wayne for better than 25 years. I met him through his work on HVAC's and found we had a mutual interest in deer hunting. That lead to many enjoyable days in he field and a solid friendship I will miss.
He was a proud husband, father, Vietnam Veteran, HVAC mechanic and Steelers fan, we forgave him for that. He was a very private person, playing his cards close to the chest. Never revealing any weakness. He showed respect when it was due and earned respect through his actions.
My wife and I have enjoyed the company of Wayne and Susan for many years. We have seen how much their family meant to them and how they endeavored to make life better for them all. Through the youngsters school activities, then the trials and tribulations of adulthood, they were there to do whatever they could.
God Bless both Wayne and his family.

Uncle Wayne was a rough-and-tumble uncle, never without a verbal jab and playful grin. My fondest memories of him are punctuated by his laughter which could nearly rumble the floor if you paid attention. Uncle Wayne was brash at times, loud all the time (lol) and a genuinely helpful guy. If you needed a hand moving or home repairs, any favor really, Wayne is your first phone call. I'll miss him a lot. Here's to you, Old Man. I love you.

A beautiful tribute from long-time friend, Kenny (Shorty) Jones, taken from a Facebook post:
(I hope he doesn't mind me sharing it here; I don't want to lose it)

"My heart is broken. I just don’t know what to say. Wayne and I go way back him and I were great friends and worked together for many years. His family and mine became very close and did a lot together camping, cookouts, hunting, fishing everything close friends and family do together. You are missed my friend but we will meet again someday my friend until then much love and thanks for all the great memories."

My uncle Wayne was a foundation builder. Everyone that knows him can tell you how hard he worked. He didn't just put in the hours, he put in the effort to make sure everyone around him knew what to expect. Wayne got the job done and didn't make excuses. He also expected others to do the same, as he set an example to follow.

He was a man of few words with me, growing up. As a grown man, I respect that. I'm the same way. Wise men speak when they have something to say. Fools speak when they just have to say something. Wayne was no fool. And he didn't tolerate foolishness.

A couple years ago I moved in with my uncle, along with Susan, Tim and PJ. It was a great opportunity to get back on my feet and to build a new relationship with Wayne. He had already been diagnosed by then, and his decline had begun. I was blessed to have gotten to know him in his last chapter. And I was blessed that he built a foundation that endured. I crawled onto it and was able to stand up on my own before venturing out to build a foundation of my own, a few weeks ago.

Last month I promised him that when I wasn't tasked with other things I would take him for walks in his wheelchair, and he was happy to hear it. The last time the weather was good, I walked him to the nearby duck pond and parked the wheelchair so we could chill for a few minutes. He breathed a sign of relief and elation when the wind picked up and rustled his grey hair.

I explained to him that I admire him and look up to him. I posited that a man at the end of his life should be able to look back and be proud of what he had done, even amidst human mistakes along the way. He didn't have too many words left, at this point. He stammered and stuttered more often than he responded sensibly.

But when I said this, he looked me right in the eye and perfectly said, "damned right." We nodded in silence and enjoyed the lake for a few minutes. Then he said, "I'm ready to go." I nodded, crying a happy tear for him.

Worked around Wayne at PWC Norfolk/Navfac for many years. We became good friends and spent allot of good times together. I will miss Wayne so much, I will never forget my friend. Rest In Peace my friend.

I believe in love at first sight.

When I first met Wayne through a mutual friend, he had been separated from his first wife for many months and was going to St Leo's College while working at PWC.

We talked all day about many things, dog breeds was one topic that stands out in my mind. I offered to type up some assignments he had to finish. He then left town, promising to get back with me the following week to pick up his finished work.

I fixed his typos and reworded his text and sat on pins and needles waiting to see him again. I remember talking about him at the family dinner table and my little brother teased me, "If you like him so much, why don't you marry him?" I responded, "Well, I just might"!

When he came over he met my family and lingered, uncomfortably shuffling his feet like a nervous boy outside the front porch before finally asking me if I wanted to go have a drink.

The rest is history. I believe in love at first sight because it happened to me.

Wayne was the first man I was even the least bit interested in for a long time. I was young, had a kid and didn't care for casual dating. We dated, then "shacked up" and eventually married on August 18, 1990.

I'm so glad I waited for the right man. We made a life together. Our blended family, with his two children and my son, we somehow made it through. All these years later, a lifetime, and I still can't believe how we fell in love instantly.

A part of me is gone. A big part of me. Half of me. It's strange and discombobulating but Wayne made me into the tough woman I am so I know I'll be okay. I'll sure miss him though.

I told him that when he got to heaven to be sure to put in a good word for me and save me a seat beside him.

He saw angels and wanted to get to the "house" the "white one", pointing up. He tried repeatedly to climb out of his bed because he wanted to "go home". His last words to me the night he died were, "It's taking too long". He made it and waits for me now.

I met Wayne at all of our haven, the Butler Lake Campground. He was a wonderful mixture of a mans man and a jokester. And thru him I met his wife, Susan who has become a amazingly close Friend and confident.

Wayne had a wonderful giving heart and would always help out wherever he could. We’ve been totally indebted and grateful for his help. From saving us from having to spend big bucks getting our air conditioner working to climbing under the camper to work on piping and such. He’s bout the only one who could have gotten into that tiny, dirty, cobwebbed space. Of course coming out fussing about the chore with that wonderful teasing grin on his face. Such a great guy.

You will be so very missed Wayne. I’m am so glad the pain and confusion are no longer holding you down. I’ll see you again in Paradise my friend. ❤️

Wayne was my rough and tumble manly uncle lol never without a gun and freshly shot deer nearby. He taught me to respect nature (to a degree, cats would disagree til pebbles). And my love of the guns haha and outdoors in general wasnt just helped but nurtured by wayne. He and I butted heads and his antlers 10 point by the way are in my living room. Wayne was a father to me and I'll never forget him. The tenacity, the spirit. The hardest man, they dont make them anymore. One of a kind. When we meet again ill handcuff you in kind. Kisses and have a great adventure, we'll meet again old man

I first met Wayne when he worked in X-275, We became friends and shared many good times together. He loved to go camping and we enjoyed Crabtree Falls a lot. Some times toooo much. LOL. He even went with me to my farm in Alabama to help me set up a travel trailer.
I will miss his laugh and his sense of humor and his friendship.
I will just miss him.

I like to remember Wayne as the avid hunter that he was. I love the picture of him in his camouflage.

We will miss Wayne and his playfulness. He was always a favorite uncle. He was the one to be found with all the kids- usually rough housing on the floor! As his nephew, my son, grew older, Wayne could still best him in wrestling.

I'll never eat venison again without remembering Wayne. And family get togethers won't be the same without Uncle Wayne.

My family sends their condolences to all who knew him, but especially to my sister, his loving wife, who took such great care of him. They don't make men like him anymore.
