William Clyde Earl

CDR USN RET., William C. Earl, 86, passed away on December 18, 2012. He was born May 20, 1926 to the late Edward and Hazel Earl in New Castle, PA. His wife of 58 years, Suzanne S. Earl preceded him in death.

Mr. Earl was a 1951 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, played on the football and lacrosse teams, was a two-time All-American in lacrosse, and the 1951 Thompson Trophy recipient. He served in US Navy, retired after 22 years of service and received numerous medals. Mr. Earl was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church, the Kempsville Masonic Lodge and the Naval Academy Foundation.

He is survived by his daughters, Martha Lawrence and husband Andrew of Mount Jackson, VA; and Margaret Sawyer of Virginia Beach, VA; brother, Eugene Earl of Springfield, VA; 4 grandchildren, Amanda Posiask (Joe), Thomas Carroll(Christy), Randy Donathan (Cassie), and Mary Knuettel (Christian); and 5 great grandchildren, Joey, Audrey, William, Maggie and Collin.

The family will receive friends at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Rd., Virginia Beach, VA on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 6pm to 8pm. A graveside service with full Military Honors will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 10:00am at Rosewood Memorial Park.
