

William H. Long, Jr., 91, of Glade Road passed away May 21, 2012 after a long illness. He was born in Oconee County, South Carolina to William and Claudia Long. He moved to Norfolk in 1941 and worked for Birchard Dairy until he was drafted into the U.S. Navy where he served proudly during WWII in the Pacific Theater. After the war he returned to work with Birchard Dairy before starting Long's Religious Supply and Long's Bookbinding. He was active in the local Republican Party and ran for the House of Delegates in 1979. He was President of the Christian Booksellers Association for many years and led educational trips to the Holy Land. He was active in the ministry for the Norfolk City Jail, the Gideons and VFW 139.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel; sons, Jerry (Deloris) and Roger (Sherry); grandsons, Kenneth, Brandon and Jason; great grandchildren, Samuel and Alice; sisters, Betty Edwards and Anne Gray (JC); and many in-law’s, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm, Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, May 25, 2012 at Temple Baptist Church at 3300 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk. Burial will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park in Virginia Beach.
