The loving patriarch of the Yarbrough family has passed away on this 19th day of October, 2025. He was predeceased by his parent’s Stanford and Mary Yarbrough and his only sibling Charlotte Anne Mooney. He leaves behind the love of his life Betty Yarbrough, his loving daughters Deborah, Joanne and Julie (Gary) who blessed him with an abundance of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grandchildren, Melissa, Aaron, Shawna, Elizabeth. John Derek, Brandon and Hannah. Great-grand children- Bethany, Jacob, Stella and Abbygale(Abby). Also left to cherish his memory , a special nephew Joe Mooney, his Sister in law Annette and his cousins in Eden NC and Betty's family was a beloved extension of his own family and his friends were always just as much family as kin. Special long time friends Ralph and Fran Pittman have been a blessing to Bill and Betty for many years.
Bill lived a full life, and he was grateful every day for the blessings our family received. Growing up around the Silk Mills in Eden NC, where he and his extended family worked in the cotton and silk mills and eventually moving to Norfolk, VA where he spent the remainder of his life, Bill entered the military and served during
the Korean War from 1951-1953 earning the 3 Medals of honor. He would say the most important moments of his life were when he asked for the hand of the love of his life and wed Betty Nobles on New Years Eve of 1953 and when he gave his life to Jesus in 1971. He was equally devoted to both and served as a musician, mechanic, deacon, Sunday School teacher and youth camp bus driver but most importantly a friend to all who attended Norview Pentecostal Holiness church, now named Movement Church. He truly lived a life spreading the gospel, whether it be by praying for those in need as he met them on the street, or handing out meals and witnessing to those less fortunate at the boardwalk in Ocean View through the twilight of his life.
Bill was a talented guitar, keyboard, bass player and singer, making a living playing Jazz in dance halls early in life and at the Aberdeen Barn fine dining restaurant and nursing homes later on. He dedicated his talents to the Lord from the time he was saved and helped inspire, instruct, or influence countless Christian’s as he raised a joyful noise for his church. He was also a talented mechanic working for Hunger’s, Wilkin’s and Percy’s Auto Shop, helping out countless friends and family with his talents in and outside the shop.
Bill will always be remembered for being a loving husband. He knew he had found everything his heart desired with his beautiful bride Betty, who stood faithful throughout Bill’s life and who he always loved with all of his being. They traveled the globe spreading the word of God and enjoying a number of adventures with their
dear friends Ralph and Fran, and with Betty’s family who loved him dearly.
It is sad to see the patriarch of the Yarbrough family move on, but we know God will guide him as gently and kindly, the same way Bill treated everyone he met, and say “Well done my good and faithful servant.”
