Mr. Lewis served in the United State Marine Corps and after four years, was honorably discharged. He completed both his undergraduate degree in psychology, and his Master’s degree in Public Administration from The Ohio State University. In 1985, he earned his Juris Doctorate from the Howard University School of Law. Mr. Lewis was in private practice for a number of years, served as a Commonwealth Attorney in the city of Norfolk, and was appointed the first Black judge in the city of Virginia Beach (Juvenile Domestic Relations Court) in 1992.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Neumon Lewis; his three children, Kayin, Kimani and Killian and his six grandchildren.
