Catherine Margaret Murphy, 87, of East Greenwich, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Daniel C. Murphy. They were married for 55 years.
Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Owen F. and Ann (Farrelly) Goodwin.
Catherine attended Blessed Sacrament School and St. Xavier Academy. She worked for New England Telephone, and worked briefly in the Providence School Department as a secretary. Her true joy came from raising her 5 children, and her many grandchildren.
As a snowbird, she enjoyed playing golf and mahjong, in Naples, Florida as well as spending summers in Bonnet Shores.
She leaves three daughters, Eileen A. Mullaney and her husband John, Maureen E. Murphy, Kathleen A. Murphy and her husband David; two sons, Daniel C. Murphy, Jr., Patrick O. Murphy and his wife Jean, and ten loving grandchildren and one great grandchild, and one sister Ellen M. Myers. She was the sister of the late Edward, Peter, Owen, Thomas, and Jane Goodwin, Mary Sweeney, and Anne Masse.
The funeral will begin on Wednesday, May 29 at 9:30 am in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road (Rte. 117) Warwick. Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third Street, East Greenwich. Burial will follow in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting hours Tuesday, May 28 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Blessed Sacrament Church, 239 Regent Avenue, Providence, RI 02908 in Catherine's memory would be appreciated.
