

George is survived by his loving children David Hammond and his wife Nicole, John Hammond, Jennifer (Hammond) Veilleux and her husband Paul, Stephen Hammond and two stepchildren Elisa (Remington) Igliozzi and David Remington. Also survived by his adoring sister Ann (Hammond) Suboter and her two children Dawn and Jeff. George was a dedicated and compassionate grandfather to fifteen grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Amelia (Szurleys) Hammond, his brother Thomas Hammond, his granddaughter Amber Hammond, and his brother-in-law Gary Suboter. George grew up in Cranston and was a long-time resident of North Kingstown before moving to Arizona, returning annually to Wickford.
George honorably served in the U.S. Coast Guard, where he gained electrical engineering skills that he used throughout his career at IBM. He was assigned to some of the state’s largest data centers such as URI, the Providence Journal and Brown University. He was a member of the Wickford Yacht club, sharing the joy of sailing and navigation with his children. George was an avid hiker and founding member of the Hiking Club at The Highlands at Dove Mountain in AZ. He loved stamp collecting and genealogy. He will be missed for his kindness, humble leadership skills, sense of humor and amazing stories.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 6th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. with his funeral service on Friday, March 7th at 10:00 a.m. in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road, Warwick. Burial with military honors will follow in Thomas Cemetery, Swansea, MA.
