Born in Warwick, RI, Jim was the son of the late Gerald T. Griffin and Anne (Spencer) Griffin. After high school, he became a licensed electrician and spent 38 years as a proud member of IBEW Local 99.
In his youth, Jim was a skilled basketball player and a lifelong admirer of Larry Bird. He loved his Ford Mustangs. In later years, he could be found relaxing on his Brentwood Ave porch with the TV on (likely watching Frasier or Cheers), a DoorDash meal in hand, and his loyal dog Buddy beside him. Jim also found joy playing Dice with friends.
Jim will be remembered for his generosity, humor, and easy charm. He made people feel welcome, whether sharing a conversation, a drink, or a plate of cheese and crackers. His friends at Tavern 12 in Warwick knew him as a kind, loyal presence who embraced everyone without judgment.
He is survived by his siblings, Elizabeth Moffat of Warwick, Kathryn Brown of Warwick, Joanne Griffin Botts of Warwick, and Mark Griffin of Coventry. He also leaves behind ten nieces and nephews and seven great nieces and great nephews, including Oliver “Ollie” Shane, with whom he shared a special bond. He will be missed by his brother in law, Kevin Moffat, and by his lifelong friends: Larry Jensen, Jill Rivers, and Tommy Hazard. Jim was predeceased by his siblings; Gerald Griffin Jr., Sheila Griffin Stewart, and Kevin P. Griffin, and a nephew, Shane Moffat.
Friends and family are invited to his visitation on Friday, August 28, from 3:00–6:00 PM at the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road, Warwick, RI. A service will follow at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
