Joseph James, affectionately known as “Valley” or “Joe,” passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, at the age of 75.
Born in Carenage, Trinidad and Tobago, Joseph was the beloved son of the late Johnson James and Christine James (nee Woodley).
He was a devoted brother to Janetta Diaz, Annette James, Eurie Mills, Eureka James, Farrell James and deceased Hazel James, Rhona James and Cyrus James.
He was a cherished uncle to Brenda Mills, Bernadette Albert, Anne Vialva, Gillian James, Rhonda James, Clayton Felix, Kashia Diaz, Ava James, Robert James, Rose James, Kerrylee James, Sean James, Annmarie Geetooah, Laureen Butler and Pamela James — as well as many other nieces, nephews and loved ones who held him dear.
Joseph spent his early life in the village of Carenage, where he was born. In early 1975 he migrated to the USA and spent a short while in New York. He then relocated to Rhode Island and lived there for approximately fifty years. There, he worked as a driver and built a life filled with friendship, music, and laughter.
Known for his quiet strength and adventurous spirit, Joe brought light and joy wherever he went. He held a deep love for his cousins, the Peltier family — Ingrid, Eulaine, Joycelyn, Margaret, Charmaine, and Pat.
He will be fondly remembered by Norma Miller, Selma Lancaster, Sandra Waits, and many dear friends who became his extended family in Rhode Island.
Joe’s passion for music and dancing was unmatched. He was always the first on the dance floor and the last to leave. His zest for life, his love for his family, and his readiness for any adventure will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew him.
He will be missed beyond measure, but his laughter, rhythm, and kindness will continue to echo in our memories. Until we meet in heaven, continue to dance like David danced before the Lord.
A memorial service celebrating Joseph’s life will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Rd, Warwick.
May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may we honour his legacy by living with the same joy, love, and music that he shared with us all.
