Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Laurence H. Fitzgerald Jr. and Jean (Mills) Clarke, and the stepson of Robert J. Clarke. He is survived by his loving sisters, Donna Fitzgerald and her partner James Barboza, and Joanne Gauvin and her husband David. Laurence was a proud uncle to David Gauvin II and Tammie Gauvin, and a great-uncle to David Gauvin III.
Laurence pursued his education at the Community College of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island School of Electronics. He enjoyed a fulfilling career as a supervisor at Gulton Industries, where he worked until his retirement.
A passionate drummer, Laurence was a dedicated member of the Regal Crownsmen Drum & Bugle Corps, performing as a snare drummer from 1966 to 1972 and later serving as drum instructor from 1971 to 1974. He also shared his talents with the Providence Grenadiers, the Fall River Hurricanes, and co-instructed alongside Lee Mangano at the Providence Career and Technical Academy.
Laurence loved to travel and found joy in exploring new places. He lived by the words:
"If I have had influence on just one person's life, then I have succeeded."
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 from 4:00-6:00 pm in the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Road, Warwick.
