

Lou-Ann Nixon passed away peacefully on April 13, 2025 after a brief illness at Tockwotton on the Waterfront in East Providence, her home for the last few years. Her loving family was by her side in her final days.
Lou-Ann had no children of her own but was the cherished aunt and great-aunt of Ted Shallcross III (Shannon Shallcross), Mary Forti (Mark Forti), Bill Powers Jr (Martha Sherrill), Madeleine Forti, Lydia Forti, Will Powers, Teddy Shallcross and Gethan Shallcross.
She grew up on Smith Hill in Providence with her siblings Mary Powers and Ted Shallcross Jr., and their wonderful parents, the late Ann and Ted Shallcross.
Lou-Ann graduated from St. Xavier’s High School. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Social and Health Services summa cum laude from Roger Williams College, and a Master of Social Work degree from Rhode Island College.
For many years she counseled Vietnam Veterans for their health challenges including post-traumatic stress disorder. Later in life she was an elder-care manager, providing companionship and support to ailing older people.
A joyful, loving person with a deep spiritual life, Lou-Ann traveled widely, living for a time in Germany and later visiting Mexico, Switzerland and other places for her work.
She treasured her long association with the Concordia Center for Spiritual Living community and the many blessings they provided.
Lou-Ann’s family is deeply grateful to the staff at Tockwotton on the Waterfront who looked after her with such care and compassion in her final months and days.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, from 4-7 p.m. and April 22 from 9:30-11 a.m at the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Rd, Warwick, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private.
