Born in 1930, Margaret was the cherished daughter of the late John Joseph Maher and Margaret Louise McElroy Maher. From an early age, she carried a natural grace and warmth that stayed with her throughout her life.
A truly beautiful woman inside and out, Margie had a way of making every room feel brighter simply by being in it. Her welcoming smile, effortless sense of style, and uplifting spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She was the heart of her family—a devoted wife and loving mother whose strength, joy, and compassion shaped generations. She shared a beautiful life with her beloved husband, James E. Moura, to whom she was married for more than 65 years, a partnership rooted in love, devotion, and unwavering commitment, who passed in 2013.
Margie was the beloved mother of four children—James Gregory Moura, Cheryl Ann Louth, Brian Edward Moura, and Christine Ann Barrett—whom she loved deeply and unconditionally. Through her words and example, she instilled values that defined her own life: kindness, charity, elegance and serenity. Her family fondly remembers the simple pleasures that brought her joy—peaceful days at the beach, getting lost in a good book wherever the sun could warm her face, and, of course, her famous “Margie cakes,” lovingly made for family and friends during the holidays and beyond.
With a natural eye for beauty, Margie found great happiness in her gardens and in creating a warm, welcoming home. She had a special gift for turning everyday spaces into inviting havens, filling them with seasonal touches that made family gatherings feel magical and full of love.
Margie embraced life with enthusiasm and heart. She treasured every moment spent with her family, especially on vacations around her home of Rhode Island and throughout the rest of New England. Some of her happiest memories were made at the family’s cozy cabin in Maine, where the peaceful surroundings always brought her joy.
She dedicated her professional life to caring for others, working as a CNA at Country Manor Nursing Home in North Kingstown before retiring from Kent County VNA—roles that reflected her deep compassion and generous spirit.
Margie leaves behind her treasured grandchildren—Ian Louth, Kathryn Carr, Ryan Louth, Brian Moura, Stephanie Moura, Kyle Moura, Evan Barrett, and Joshua Barrett—as well as her beloved great-grandchildren, Sophie Louth, Scarlette Louth, and Josie Carr. She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her cherished siblings, John Maher, Francis Newberry, James Maher, and Mary Healey.
As we honor Margie’s life, we do so with deep gratitude for the love she shared so freely and the beauty she brought into the lives of others. Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. May we continue her legacy by choosing kindness, resilience, and joy—just as she did every day of her life.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, February 23, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Gregory the Great Church, 360 Cowesett Road Warwick. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
