She was the daughter of the late Lorraine “Sophie” and Herbert “Herbie” Strobeck.
A devoted mother, Romaine raised her children Karen, Keith, Kenny, and the late Gregory and Rochelle with endless love and care. She welcomed their spouses Pasco, Donna, and Robyn as family. She was a proud and cherished grandmother “Babchi” to Jessica, Bethany, Mark, Kayley, Eric, McKenzie, Kenny Jr., Justin, and the late Keith, Jr. Her love extended to the next generation as a great-grandmother to Peightyn, Isabella, Brantlee, Sebastian, Lorenzo, Greyson, Teddy, and Roman.
Romaine was also a loving sister to Diane Ahern and the late Charlene Fontana as well as sister in law to Robert Ahern and Joseph Fontana. She was a wonderful aunt, godmother, and a dear friend to many.
She was a sweetheart, but she was also so much more. Romaine’s heart belonged to her family and she expressed her love through cooking, always making sure no one left her home hungry. She was especially known for her delicious soups, a favorite among her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching Fox News and the Cooking Channel and experimenting with Polish recipes, always eager to share her culinary talents.
Her home was her sanctuary, filled with warmth and laughter. She had a love for wine (and the occasional martini) and was always up to date on current affairs, especially politics. Having served as the personal secretary to the Mayor of Johnston for 25 years, she had a wealth of stories and a deep understanding of the world around her.
Romaine was the “Queen Mother” of the Red Hat Society, but to those who knew her best, she was simply “Queen Romaine” – a woman of grace humor, and unwavering strength. She had a remarkable ability to find light in the darkest moments, often lifting spirits with her jokes and laughter. Even in the face of hardship, she remained strong, offering comfort and wisdom to those in need. She always knew the right thing to say.
She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved her. Romaine is now at peace, reunited with those who have passed before her.
Rest in peace, Queen Romaine.
