Eileen Stehle, a longtime resident of Washingtonville, NY, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, August 9, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and cherished family traditions. She was born on April 24, 1936, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late John and Anne (nee Jordan) Murphy.
Eileen was a dedicated registered nurse who worked for many years at St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City before starting a new career in insurance to spend more time with her family. She was also a devoted parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Washingtonville, where her faith was an important part of her life.
Above all, Eileen treasured her family. She was the beloved mother of Kathleen Olivieri and her husband Joseph, George Stehle, Jr., and Kristine Tornillo and her husband Thomas. She was a proud grandmother to Ryan and his wife Christina, Jordan, Samantha and her husband Alex, Michael, and Vincent, and a loving great-grandmother to Tyler and Luke. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Eileen was a kind, loving, and thoughtful person who always put others before herself. She was the matriarch of her family and an exceptional mother and grandmother who was always there for her grandchildren and never missed their special events. She took great joy in maintaining family traditions and creating memories that will be treasured for generations.
Christmas was Eileen’s favorite holiday and time of year. She had a special gift for knowing exactly what would make each person happy and was incredibly generous. Whether it was an elaborate present or the simplest gift, everything she gave came from her heart, and her greatest joy was seeing the happiness it brought to others.
Eileen also loved sharing lunches with family and friends and enjoyed going out to restaurants and spending time with the people she loved. Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family touched everyone who knew her.
Eileen will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but her love, traditions, and countless memories will remain in their hearts forever.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Washingtonville. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Washingtonville.
