Born in Groveton, New Hampshire on Feb. 8, 1930, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Benjamin J. McMann and Mary Agnes (Coates) McMann. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of nearly 70 years, Bert Raymond King, and her daughter, Barbara A. Ottaviano.
She is survived by her children: David King of Kingston, New York; Douglas King of Port Charlotte, Florida, and his children, Rebecca and Steven; Michael King and his wife, Cindy, of Gardiner, New York, and their son, Sean; and Kathleen King of New Paltz, New York, and her children, Denise, Kayla, Shannon and Jaylene. She is also survived by Barbara's sons, Charlie and John, as well as several great-grandchildren.
Evelyn graduated from the Mary Fletcher Hospital School of Nursing. Although she began her career as a nurse, she chose to devote herself fully to her family as a loving wife, mother, and homemaker.
Throughout her long and remarkable life, Evelyn witnessed many historic events and often shared vivid memories of growing up during the Great Depression and the decades that followed. She and Bert spent many years traveling, researching their family genealogy, and volunteering to help others trace their own family histories. An avid reader, Evelyn instilled a love of books in her children. She also enjoyed knitting and lovingly created countless treasured gifts for her children and grandchildren.
Evelyn will be remembered for her devotion to family, her kindness, her resilience, and the many lives she touched throughout her 96 years.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to Michael and Cindy King for providing Evelyn with a loving and comfortable home during her final years after Hurricane Ian destroyed her residence.
In accordance with Evelyn's wishes, services will be private.
