James Carl Peterson passed away in his home on May 19th, 2020. He was born on November 21st, 1945 in Poughkeepsie, NY. He lived the last 36 years of his life in Washingtonville, NY and had a lifelong connection to Newburgh and the Adirondacks.
James was predeceased by his parents James and Belle (Taylor) Peterson of Hyde Park, NY. He is survived by his loving family, wife Maureen (Dwyer) Peterson, children Kristin (Ajay) Damle, Molly (Mario) Iafrate, Sean and Brad Peterson and his brother Eric Peterson. He leaves behind three grandchildren, Annabelle, Nieve and Cristiano. He is also survived by many other family members and friends who he adored deeply.
Jim spent his career helping young people in various roles. He also proudly served his country in the US Navy as a corpsman.
The most important thing to Jim was his family and friends, well maybe we should add what watch he was going to wear that day, fishing, watching the weather channel and what car he was going to buy next. Let’s not forget Bigfoot and the WWE. He was known for his quick wit. His generous nature touched many. He was always there to help his family, friends and community.
James, Jim, Jimbo, Pete, Dad, Poppy, Mr. P, Papa P, was a man who had many nicknames. His many endearing nicknames reflect how special he was to so many. He was selfless, he never judged, he never yelled, he never put anyone down. He only made people feel welcomed and loved. He was everybody’s friend and to many their best friend. He touched many peoples’ lives and we are all better people for having known him
