Born on January 27, 1978, in Suffern, New York, Kevin was the son of Charles Paul “Butch” Starkey and Linda J. Starkey. He was a proud graduate of Washingtonville High School, Class of 1997, and a dedicated member of the Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 373.
Kevin is survived by his beloved daughter, Lana Starkey, who was his greatest joy and the proudest accomplishment of his life. He cherished every moment they spent together and was so proud of the young woman she was becoming. He is also survived by his loving mother, Linda Starkey; his sister, Jennifer Starkey; his aunt, Diane Roper; his uncle, Richard Starkey; and many cousins and friends who loved him dearly. He was predeceased by his father who passed away on December 15, 2017.
From the time he was a baby, Kevin found joy in the outdoors. Hunting and fishing were more than hobbies—they were a way of life. Kevin was a true outdoorsman, a competitive marksman, an accomplished hunter, and an avid fisherman. He took great pride in patiently teaching younger generations of cousins and family members the lessons taught to him by his father and uncles.
Kevin was a talented athlete. He was a standout Little League baseball player and later played basketball at Washingtonville High School. Throughout his life, he remained a devoted fan of the New York Mets and New York Knicks, and most importantly the Dallas Cowboys (his cat was named Flozell), cheering them on through every season.
Those who knew Kevin will remember him most for his kindness, generosity, and easygoing spirit. He was the kind of person who never hesitated to help someone in need and would gladly give the shirt off his back. Polite, genuine, and welcoming to everyone he met, Kevin was everyone's friend. His warmth, sense of humor, and unwavering loyalty left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Kevin was a bright light whose presence brought comfort, laughter, and love.
Though he is gone too soon, Kevin's memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
