Mary Rose Vargetto

Mary Rose Vargetto, 88, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on July 7, 2026. Born in September 22, 1937 in Goshen, New York, Mary was the beloved daughter of Benjamin and Ida (Barbagallo) Scalfari. She lived a life centered on faith, family, and the simple joys that brought happiness to those around her. Mary was predeceased by the love of her life, her devoted husband, Sal Vargetto. Their enduring love and commitment to one another served as an inspiration to all who knew them. Family was the heart of Mary's life. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren were truly the love of her life, and she treasured every family gathering and celebration. Mary is survived by her loving children, Salvatore J. Vargetto and his wife, Donna, and Gina Vargetto-Ferguson and her husband, Edward. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Deanna, Christina, Jessica, and Jacquelyn; her beloved great-grandchildren, Giavanna and Manny; her brother, Joseph Scalfari; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her greatly. Mary had a creative spirit and enjoyed arts and crafts, gardening, sewing, and decorating her home. She was an avid fan of crime dramas, especially Law & Order, loved playing Mahjong with friends, and in her younger years enjoyed bowling. She was a proud member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Salisbury Mills Fire Department and was known for her warm heart, generous nature, and unwavering love for her family. She also adored her cats, who brought her much comfort and companionship over the years. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mary's life during visitation on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North Street, Washingtonville, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 42 Goshen Avenue, Washingtonville, New York. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Mary's kindness, creativity, laughter, and unconditional love will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her legacy lives on through the family she cherished above all else, and she will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
