Carmel was born in Waterville, on June 25, 1938, the daughter of Dominique and Marie (Ferland) Plante. She graduated from Mount Merici Academy in Waterville in 1956 and from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Lewiston, ME in 1959. She was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corp and worked at Walson Army Hospital in Fort Dix, N.J.
She married Richard A. Pinnette in November 1959 in Waterville, ME. She had six children whom she cherished and 22 grandchildren whom she adored. She was an integral part of each and every one of their lives and will be greatly missed. She loved her job as a dedicated registered nurse for 31 years at Maine General Hospital, working mostly in the operating room. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish. Special interests included gardening, genealogy, reading and traveling. She especially enjoyed traveling and visiting foreign countries.
Carmel is survived by her bother, Joseph “John” Plante; sister, Madeline Roy; sisters-in-law, Carmen Plante, Joyce Pinnette and Jane Pinnette; brothers-in-law, Robert McQuillan and Donald Reny; six children and their spouses Jeffrey Pinnette and Debora Cole of Topsham, Deborah and Richard Tozier of Waterville, Laurie and Christian Martens of Scarborough, Kathleen and Alex Child-Villiers of London, England, Scott and Tammy Pinnette of Waterville and Andrea Caldarella of Cheshire, CT; 22 grandchildren, Dylan and Ellen Pinnette, Michael, Laura, Ryan, Jonathan, Kristopher, and Joshua Tozier, Anna, Sarah, Julia and Sophia Martens, William, Celia and Freddie Child-Villiers, Nicole, Anthony, Nathan, and Lauren Pinnette, Amanda, Taylor, and David Caldarella; and many special nieces and nephews.
Carmel was predeceased by her husband, Richard; two brothers, Rene and Germaine Plante; and sister, Pearl Vashon.
Carmel’s family want to especially thank all the doctors, nurses, CNAs and respiratory therapists who cared for Carmel while on 3 North and in the Critical Care Unit at Maine General Hospital. No words can express the thanks, gratitude and appreciation the family feels for the excellent and loving care Carmel received while in the hospital.
The family also would like to thank cousin, John Tercyak, for all the evenings he spent in the hospital comforting Carmel and the family with his lovely music as well as the many friends and family who visited in the hospital.
A wake will be held at Veilleux’s Funeral Home on Friday November 25, 2011 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday November 26, 2011at 9AM at Sacred Heart Church in Waterville, followed by committal prayers at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery.
