Bonnie Kay (nee Friel) Scheidt, born to Alvin and Doris Friel on May 20, 1952 in Kalamazoo, MI. She graduated from Gull Lake High School in 1970, was a Co-Owner of D&D Painting and later the floor manager at Walmart in Plainwell, MI.
Bonnie was a fun-loving and caring person and had a laugh that would light up any room. Growing up on Little Long Lake, she enjoyed life on the water and spending outdoors admiring and tending to plants and anything green with her green thumb. She enjoyed riding her motorcycle for many years with going on group rides to various parts of the country. Bonnie was a dog lover, rescuing 16 abandoned or mistreated dogs – she loved anything else related to helping with animals. She also enjoyed craft work such as making jewelry and birdhouses. Most importantly she cherished time spent with family and friends, especially the babies and young children of her family.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents Alvin and Doris Friel; husband, David VandenBurg; brother, Larry Friel. She is survived by her adopted children Brad and April VandenBurg; siblings Donna Huffman, Donny Friel and Danny Friel; and dozens and dozens of nephews and nieces.
A memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 159 131st Ave., Wayland, MI 49348, with visitation one hour prior. Bonnie will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery in Plainwell, MI.
