Jen, I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Brian. I informed Dr McCahill and Mark and others who knew him in the office.Â Thinking and praying for you and your family. I am so glad I metÂ you bothÂ even if it was a short time. What a great guy and what a wonderful and supportiveÂ wife you were to Brian to stay by his side to care for him so lovinglyÂ in sickness and hard timesÂ remainingÂ so involvedÂ in his care. A lovingÂ spot for both of youÂ with beautiful smiles willÂ remain in my heart forÂ years to come.

Knowing a man like Brian was truly being blessed. When he started at the Sheriffâ€™s Department we all knew this kid was handsome and funny and completely full of it. He came into dispatch determined to make at least one of us laugh. Having Brian around always made everyone feel better. He was able to meet his loving wife Jen and together they made a happy family. We â€˜ll miss you Butter but youâ€™re always in our hearts.

Brian was a brother to me in so many ways.Â  We had so many things in common, yet so little time to share them together.Â  Never stopped us from talking about the things that made us tick and we fed off of each others' drive and success.Â  Proud to have called him friend and brother.Â  Miss you man, thanks for the lessons and memories.

From your Minkler Lake acquaintance to the entire Augustine family:Â  Your loss is shared by all who knew Brian.Â  Our family knew him only through visits to his grandparents, the Browns, when his parents came to visit on the South side of Minkler Lake.Â  Our daughter, Jacqueline, is very much the same age as Brian, and they became acquainted there at the lake.Â  We have loosely followed his career, and his unfair roller-coaster illness.Â  He can never be replaced!Â  May he rest in peace having served all in a more than appropriate manner.Â  Â Â 

I served with Brian on Son Life Camps board. He was always a man of his word. He thought  things out well. But above all put the Lord first. He never wanted to do half of a job . He gave it his â€œbestâ€. It was a joy to know him and call him friend .

Heaven got a little more crowded when Brian joined his almighty father recently. I can't think of a more gentle and God caring person than Brian. The same can be said of his beautiful wife and three great children. In over 50 years of my journalism career there was not a coach out there any better or more positive than "Butter."Â  I can't recall a bad word that ever came out of his month even after a difficult defeat. Death of a loved one is never easy. However, as a believer we know we will see Brian again in Heaven. Our prayers are with one of the best families that we've ever met or known. So sorry to hear this. This man helped me and my family after my motorcycle accident. Was very kind and helpful. Iâ€™m sure thereâ€™s a special place in heaven for him.

Brian and I started at the Sheriff Dept about the same time. Brian quickly became known as â€œButterheadâ€ because he spiked his hair with a lot of hair gel. He took the teasing as a young officer well and the term â€œButterâ€ stuck becoming a term of endearment. He was a highly respected officer who knew everyone in the area he worked. The original community police officer. He became known for his ability to track down people with warrants.  Butter always had your back. He loved his family most of all. He loved to take the kids hunting and fishing and bragged about their â€œcatch.â€  Butter was a friend to anyone who knew him. Gonna miss him. Love ya kid

Brian's light will always shine through you, his beautiful family. I can't help but smile when I think of him and it's probably been at least 25 years. He knew how to make people smile and laugh and that is such a beautiful gift. My prayers are with you in the days ahead. I rejoice through tears knowing he us healed in the loving arms of Jesus. First time i ever met you i was ice fishing you honey hole in martin! You were on duty and came to investigate haha. I had permission to fish from the owner. But the 3 guys across the way did not! You got rid of them quickly haha. You came back of and we chatted and talked you were checking out my new vexilar fish finder. You were amazed by it! I even offered you my fishing pole so you could pull out a few slabber gills! You reluctantly declined my offer and just laughed! I could see your excited and i knew then that you were quite the outdoorsman! I will never forget that day! Although we never got a chance to speak again it sure was an honor to chat with such a great man just for those few minutes! Rest in piece buddy! Prayers for your beautiful family.

Nothing but smiles and happiness when I think of Brian (Butter). He had a way that made everyone feel like his friend, I don't remember him bringing in one agitated arrestee, he will be dearly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone.Â

So there was this one day we were working together and Butter had stopped a guy out on Pierce Rd. or somewhere out that way and the dude took off on foot. Snow deep as you know what he calls for backup and before I get there heâ€™s snatched up the bad guy and was walking him back to the car. After said bad guy was secure Butter asks me.... Is your camera recording?.. I said of course. So he walks to the back of my car and gets rid of his two hot pockets he had just ate for lunch... He cleaned up and was off to the jail. Iâ€™m going to miss things like that.. Rest easy Brother....

I met Brian a few years ago when I worked at Big Boys. There was a group of Allegan County Officers that would come in on the days they worked and have breakfast and just sit there talking and jokingÂ with all of us workers there. Through this time of themÂ coming in to the restaurant Brian and IÂ had lots of conversationsÂ about our home town of Otsego and everyone that we knew (come to find out he knew some of my family) love small town living. He was one of the nicest guys that I have ever met and he will be greatly missed by all. Praying for everyone. I'm happy that he is pain free and is in heaven with his heavenly father.

Working with Butter was a blast we new new either way one had ones back he was always professional around the public and for sure always had that Butter smile you sir will truly be missed by all.
