

He was preceded in death by his parents Carlton and Doris Chappell; sisters Phyllis Kupres and Helen Richardson; brother-in-law, Larry McMann Sr.; nephews Larry McMann Jr. and Steve Belka; in-laws Birney and Arlene Belka; brothers-in-law Dennis Belka and Wayne Belka.
He is survived by his wife, Judie (Belka) Chappell; son, Donald (Jennifer) Chappell Jr.; daughters Jodie Chappell, Holly Chappell, and Heidi Chappell Davies; grandsons Trenten Belka (Rachel Standish) and Ty Belka; step-grandson Hunter (Katie) Matice; brother-in-law, Allen Belka; sister-in-law, Dawn (Dennis) Flannery; sister-in-law, Kathy (Wayne) Belka; sister, Patricia McMann; brother-in-law, Gary Richardson; special neighbor, Stacey Molis and kids; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Don was involved in many clubs including the Dorr Township Lions Club, Wayland Snowmobile Club, and the Western Michigan Snowmobile Club that he helped start. His working career included Stan Bateons Ford Dealership, of Wayland, Spartan Stores, Gordon Foods, and various safety/first aid equipment companies, and Grand Hi Reach Company. He was a certified first aid instructor. Following retirement he started volunteering at computer recycling facilities. Don loved his yard and walked it daily making sure it was free of sticks and debris.
Don was a 1965 graduate of Wayland Union High School and leaves many old friends near and far. He was a devoted husband, father, and a proud grandfather to his grandsons Trenten and Ty, and special boy, Hayden Holland.
Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2026, with visitation beginning at 11 a.m., at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home, 312 N. Main Street, Wayland, MI 49348. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.kubiakcookwayland.com in their online guestbook.
