Howard C. Cowles

Howard C. Cowles, aged 90, reunited with his beautiful bride of 64 years, Juanita, in Heaven, September 2, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita (Bush) Cowles and his daughter Constance Swartout. Howard will be lovingly remembered by his children: Emery (Michelle) Stora and Diane (Tim) Butler; his grandchildren: Jill Dominiak, Robert (Ann) Swartout, Tracey (Tom) Arnold, Teri Stora, Michael Stora, Michelle (Tom) Grassia, Toni (Todd) Verburg, Darci (Mark) Kositzky and ten great-grandchildren. Howard and Juanita owned the Wayland Standard Station and Gamble's Hardware Store in Wayland. He was a member of the St. Therese Catholic Church. Howard was a distinguished U.S. Army Veteran, having served during WWII, in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a former commander of the American Legion and was a member of the Wayland VFW, Elks, and the Family Motor Coach Association. Howard traveled nationally as a square dance caller. A true gentleman, Howard was a leader in his community and church and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Family will greet friends and relatives 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Friday at Kubiak-Cook Family Services, Wayland- 312 N. Main Street, Wayland, MI 49348, with a Rosary at 2 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 A.M. Saturday, September 6, at St. Therese Catholic Church with Father Christian Johnston officiating, with a visiting time from 10-11 AM. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery, with military honors.
