She is also survived by son-in-law, Lyle Whitney; sisters Louise Kipen and Florence Reilly; brothers Henry (Cheryl) Makarewicz and Ted Makarewicz; sister-in-law, Eleanor Marker; brother-in-law, John Hinds; as well as many nieces and nephews.

When I think of Irene it brings a smile to my face because she had the most beautiful smile. We started our relationship as neighbors but through the years it deepened and grew. She was like a second Mom for me. Our mothers always knew where to find us. If we weren't at our house then we were at yours. The affection our mothers shared was unconditional and lasted a life time. When my mother was nearing the end of her journey Irene would visit her every week and they would share memories and talk about their grandchildren. The only word that defines their relationship is love! I will always hold her dear in my heart.
