John L. Schut, age 72, of Wayland passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, July 21, 2013. John was born May 4, 1941 to John and Ella (Verstrate) Schut in Hudsonville, MI. John was an avid fan of NASCAR and of the Detroit Tigers. When not watching the Tigers or NASCAR, John enjoyed being outside, especially mowing. He is survived by: Children Jeff (Tama) Schut of Canton, OH, Amy (Darrin) Bishop of Wayland, MI, Andy Schut of Wyoming, MI, Derek Schut of Marathon, FL, siblings Lucille (Abram) Westhouse, Jennie (Fred) McBain, Elizabeth (Rich) Hoexum, Angeline Schut, 8 grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents, son Michael Schut, sister Gert (John) Roelofs. A memorial service is planned for August 11, 2013 at Gun Lake Community Church 12200 W M 179 Hwy Wayland, MI 49348 beginning at 4 pm with a time of gathering from 3 pm till time of service.
