He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Lucille Pitkin and all of his sisters: Connie, Delores, and Virginia. He will be lovingly missed by his three sons Rodger (Suzanne), Ronald (Micki), and John (Tiffany); grandchildren Patrick, Jessica, Sean (Coralea), Emmalea; great-grandson, Marshall; many nieces, nephews; and special friends Keith and Anthony.
Karl was a simple man who enjoyed simple pleasures. He spent his retirement of 22 years driving around and talking to people that he met along the way. Notably he did it on a three-wheel bike in his hometown of Wayland the last seven years.
If you lived in Wayland, you knew of Dad. He pedaled that bike over 1000 miles a year. If you didn’t know him as “Karl,” you knew him as the old man who rode his trike through all types of weather. The day of his passing at the Laurels of Wayland, he was observed by visiting friends pedaling in his sleep with a smile on his face. May God rest his soul. He will be missed by all.
Per Karl’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. His cremains will be interred in Flint Memorial Gardens in the springtime.
Thank you to everyone in Wayland who was there to lift Dad back up when he was down. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Denise from Mill St. Apartments, University of Michigan Health-West Hospital, The Laurels of Sandy Creek in Wayland, and especially Wayland EMS for being with Dad as he passed.
The family welcomes memories and messages in their online guestbook at www.kubiakcookwayland.com.
