Larry Dean Van Volkinburg

Larry Van Volkinburg, age 88, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, January 24, 2022 while surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents Fern and Vena Van Volkinburg; his first wife of 42 years, Dora Van Volkinburg; and siblings DonnaBell, Keith, Donald, Ronald, Vena Mae and Freeda. He will be deeply missed by his second wife of 19 years, Yvonne Van Volkinburg; children Billy (Nancy) Gifford, Doreen Redding, Susan (Steven) DeKoekkoek, Shirley Van Volkinburg, Tammy Chaney; stepson, Brad (Sarah) McCord; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and siblings Duane, Doris, Joan, and Jack.

Larry served his country in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He was born in Cadillac, Michigan and later moved to the Wayland area in his teens where he built his family homes and lived for the rest of his life. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and hobby farming. Larry was a gentle spirit who loved his family and friends. He was kind to all whom he met. Most importantly, Larry loved his faith. He was very active in the church and his church community.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, February 18, 2022 at Kubiak-Cook - Wayland Chapel, 312 N. Main St., Wayland, MI 49348. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Unity Baptist Church, 3514 12th St., Wayland, MI 49348, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
