Lyle J. Leys

Lyle J. Leys, age 84 of Dorr, passed away at home, October 30, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents Russell and Leta Leys; his brother Ronald, his treasured daughter-in-law Diane Leys, his grandson Michael Scott Leys, and infant twin daughters Kimberly and Terry. Lyle will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years, Luella; his children: Jan (Mike) Stevens, Cathy (Stan) Elwartowski, Russell Leys, Karen (Wayne) Berens, Jim Cook, Rodney Leys, Dean Cook, Robert Cook, Robin (Daniel) Pegg, and Lyle J. (Barb) Leys, Jr.; his 37 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren; his brothers: Kenneth, Edward, Buzz, Darwin, Robert, and Bernard; and many nieces and nephews. Lyle was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the Dorr American Legion. He retired after 30 years from General Motors in 1980. In his retirement, Lyle was active working at Frank's Nursery, earning several distinctions as a salesman. He worked as a driver for West Michigan Auto Auction and supervised a summer work crew with the DNR. Lyle and Luella began volunteering with the American Red Cross in 1989 and together they organized the Dorr Blood Drives since 2002. In 2009, Lyle and Luella were awarded the Citizen of the Year Award by the Dorr Township Lions Club. Friends may visit with Lyle's family on Monday, November 3rd, 2014, from 4:00-7:00 PM, at the Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services, 4330 18th Street, Dorr. A memorial service will be Tuesday, 11:00 AM, at the Community of Christ Church, 4790 Jacob Street, SW, Wyoming. Donations in memory of Lyle may be made to Faith Hospice.
