Roger Neal Sikkema, affectionately known as "Rog," a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and man of God, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, October 25, 2025. He was 81 years old and a resident of Wayland, Michigan.
Rog was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan October 19, 1944, to Cornealius, known as Casey, and Muriel (Bogard) Sikkema. After high school, he attended Ferris State University where he played football and earned a degree in diesel technology. He honorably served his country in the United States Army for two years. Following his military service, he married the love of his life, Sharon.
Rog built a legacy with his own hands. He was the dedicated owner of Sikkema and Sons Pole Buildings and maintained a passion for hobby farming. Though he was proud of his work, his most cherished accomplishment was raising his family and watching his children and grandchildren succeed in life. He took immense pride in their many sporting endeavors and was always there, cheering them on at every opportunity.
A devoted man of faith with a larger-than-life personality, Rog's presence was unforgettable; his smile would truly light up a room. He loved spending time in nature, whether he was fishing, hunting, or tending his garden.
Rog is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage and together they raised three children: Bob and his wife, Brenda, and their children Hannah (Jared Westendorp), Tyler, Kaelyn, and Trent; Mindy Stahl and her husband, Nick, and their children Kenny, Carter, and Payton; and Chad and his wife, Sarah, and their children Quinton, Kellen, and Harper. Rog was also the proud great-grandfather to Arlo. He was preceded in death by his parents Casey and Muriel.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at Martin Reformed Church, 1073 W. Allegan St., Martin, MI 49070. A funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Thursday, October 30, 2025 also at Martin Reformed Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Roger's honor to the Martin Reformed Church library and youth missions. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.kubiakcookwayland.com in Roger’s online guestbook.
