Samuel “Sam” Clarence Dykstra passed away on August 19, 2026, at the age of 93. Sam’s life was centered on family, faith and community. Sam was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, graduated from Kalamazoo Christian High, moved to Wayland to open Sam’s Appliance in 1965. Sam retired from Allegan County after serving several years as facilities manager.
He was an active, devoted member of Wayland CRC, where he held various leadership and service roles throughout the years. He also gave generously of his time to community, being active in EMS, Wayland Fire Department, and various committee appointments.
Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Durian Dykstra; son, Daniel Dykstra and Linda Golden Dykstra. Sam is survived by his daughters Kathy (Scott) VanderKolk and Jane Dykstra, and daughter-in-law, Eileen Dykstra. Sam has eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; special friend, Joyce Williams; and true and faithful friend, Les Powers.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, August 24, 2026 at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home (Wayland Chapel), 312 N. Main St. Wayland. 49348. A celebration of life service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at Wayland Christian Reformed Church, 303 E. Elm St., Wayland, MI 49348, with visitation from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service.
