August "Augie" Augustine lived a long happy life, just six weeks shy of his 90th birthday. He was a Christian, great humanitarian, family man, loving husband and father, a WWII Marine, and a member of "The Dirty Dozen Plus 4". Augie was known for being a practical joker and lived life to its fullest. There wasn't one person that he didn't mentor or touch in a special way, especially kids that were struggling with personal matters. He was full-blooded Sicilian and was very proud of his heritage. He was a great cook and a short order cook at his parents’ cafe in the 5th Ward during high school . He was a long-time resident of Pasadena, Texas and retired from Shell Oil Company with 38 years of service. While at Shell, he headed up the 50th year anniversary celebration and was an active member of SCORA. He served as Chairman of the American Petroleum Institute and the highlight of his career was when he met and shook hands with the Prince of England, Prince Charles. He was born in Galveston, Texas on August 12, 1928 to Ben Augustine and Josephine Matranga Augustine and was raised along with his brothers Sam, Anthony, and Ben, and sisters Josephine, Rosalie, and Marguerite in Galveston and Houston, Texas. He graduated from Milby High School in 1946. Shortly after getting hired by Shell, he met the love of his life, Rose Marie Sortino. They would later marry on May 30, 1958. Rose passed away in 2011 and was married to Augie for 52 years. They raised 4 wonderful children and leaves behind daughters Cheri Augustine Jackson, Tammy Augustine Cave (Michael Sr.) and Anna Augustine Quintanilla (John), and son August Augustine, Jr. (Vivian), grandchildren Carla Spencer (Charlie), Chris Williams (Kristin), Michael Cave Jr. (Katy), Ashlynn McPherson (Brian), Haleigh Kneedler (Sterling), Gabrielle Quintanilla, Justin Quintanilla, Brandon Augustine, Brooke Augustine, and great-grandchildren, Lainey and Alyssa Williams, Lilly and Hunter Cave, and Barrett McPherson.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 29 from 5:00-8:00PM at Forest Park East Funeral Home. A Celebration of Augie's Life will be held Saturday, June 30 at 10:00AM at Forest Park East Funeral Home, immediately following he will be laid to rest at Forest Park East Cemetery.
