Benito Trevino

Benito “Bennie” Trevino, 86, of Friendswood, Texas, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, August 1, 2026, in League City, Texas. Bennie was born in Mexico on December 1, 1939, to Jose, Sr., and Herlinda Trevino. At just 4 years old, he came to Texas and grew up in Los Fresnos, where a simple invitation to church changed the course of his family’s life. That is when their journey with the Lord began.

During the Vietnam War, Bennie served proudly in the United States Army, stationed in Hawaii. After his Service, life led him to League City, where he worked at Kilgore’s Hardware Store for several years and unknowingly stood on the brink of the greatest chapter of his life.

In October 1965, Bennie met Gloria at a park in League City. Winning her heart took persistence, charm, and a whole lot of Bennie’s determination; but six months later, on April 3, 1966, they were united in marriage. Their love story grew into a family: Joel, born December 3, 1967; Ruthie, born February 2, 1971; and Sam, born January 26, 1974.

Faith was the foundation of Bennie’s life. He was a devoted member of Bay Area Church for 60 years and a Deacon for most of those years. He and Gloria taught the Spanish Sunday School class for an incredible 56 years, retiring in February 2022. Their ministry touched countless lives and remains one of the most enduring parts of their legacy.

Bennie’s love for his family was deep and sacrificial. After Joel’s kidney transplant failed, Bennie didn’t hesitate. He gave his own kidney to his son, even though it, too, was rejected. His willingness to give, to try, to hope, was simply who he was.

He worked for the United States Postal Service for over 30 years before retiring, though retirement never suited him. Bennie loved staying busy; so he spent a few more years working at Friendswood Hardware Store, greeting customers with the same warmth he carried everywhere.

Sundays were sacred. “Family Time,” lunch after church, became a Trevino tradition: laughter, food, stories, and togetherness. With Bennie, Gloria, and Joel now in Heaven, Family Time will look a little different; but the love they built will continue to hold everyone close.

Bennie was generous in small, sweet ways. He loved giving “hamburger money,” pressing a few dollars into someone’s hand with the encouragement to treat themselves. He was also the beloved squirrel whisperer, feeding his furry friends daily. They trusted him so much that they would wander into the garage if he was running late, even managing to break into the water cooler where the seeds were stored, a story the family still laughs about.

He was a devoted Houston Astros and Dallas Cowboys fan, never missing a game. He loved gardening, mowing, and tending to his yard, the greenest, lushest, most admired lawn in the neighborhood. If you ever fell in his yard, you would just bounce right back up. Cooking was another joy. If you visited, he fed you. That was Bennie … giving, welcoming, always making sure you left with a full stomach, a full heart, and a smile.

Life brought heartbreak in his later years. On July 6, 2022, Bennie lost Gloria, the love of his life. On June 2, 2025, he lost his oldest son, Joel. Even through profound grief, Bennie’s faith never wavered. Bennie remained steady and grateful to the Lord, knowing He would get him through each day until he was called Home.

The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to our loved ones, friends, and Bay Area Church for their steadfast support over the years. Our profound gratitude goes to The Cottages of Clear Lake in League City for the exceptional compassion and care they provided Bennie during his last three months. He found a second family there, and we are deeply grateful.
